JSW MG Motor Electric SUVs India: Exciting & Powerful EV Lineup Launching Soon

JSW MG Motor electric SUVs India plans are becoming increasingly ambitious as the company prepares to launch several electrified vehicles over the next two years. The brand, which has already established a strong presence in India’s EV market, is now planning to expand its portfolio with a mix of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid SUVs.

After introducing an ICE-only flagship SUV earlier, the company is now shifting focus toward electrification. By next year, three new electrified SUVs are expected to arrive in India. These models will include both locally manufactured vehicles and imported premium offerings, allowing the brand to target different segments of buyers. This strategy could significantly strengthen the company’s position in India’s fast-growing electric mobility space, which is expected to witness rapid adoption over the next decade.

MG IM6 Electric SUV Coupe Could Rival Premium EVs

The first major product in the JSW MG Motor electric SUVs India lineup will likely be the MG IM6, a premium D-segment SUV coupe expected to launch around October.

This upcoming EV will target buyers looking for a high-performance electric SUV with futuristic styling and strong driving dynamics. Globally, the model is offered with two powertrain configurations.

Single-Motor RWD Variant

The entry version uses a powerful electric motor producing:

  • 402 hp power
  • 500 Nm torque
  • 0–100 km/h in 5.4 seconds
  • Top speed of 235 km/h

It draws energy from a 96.5 kWh NCM battery pack, enabling an impressive 625 km range (WLTP cycle).

Dual-Motor AWD Variant

A more performance-focused version is also available internationally. This configuration offers:

  • 742 hp
  • 802 Nm torque
  • 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds
  • Top speed of 239 km/h

However, the range drops slightly to 505 km (WLTP).

Reports suggest that India may receive only the single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant initially. The SUV is expected to be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and sold through premium MG Select dealerships. This model will compete with premium EVs such as the Tesla Model Y, bringing strong performance and advanced electric technology to the segment.

New Plug-In Hybrid D-Segment SUV to Be Built in India

The second product in the JSW MG Motor electric SUVs India expansion plan will be a locally manufactured D-segment SUV scheduled for launch between October and December.

Internally known as “MG 520,” the upcoming SUV will reportedly be based on the Wuling Starlight 560, a model already available in international markets.

Three-Row Layout for India

While global markets offer both five-seat and seven-seat versions, India is expected to receive the three-row configuration to appeal to family buyers. This SUV will likely be offered with two electrified powertrain options.

Plug-in Hybrid Variant

The plug-in hybrid model combines a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with an electric motor.

Key specifications include:

  • Petrol engine output: 105 hp and 130 Nm
  • Electric motor output: 194 hp and 230 Nm
  • Battery pack: 20.5 kWh LFP battery
  • Electric-only range: 125 km (CLTC)

Such a setup allows drivers to run short daily commutes purely on electricity, while the petrol engine provides extended range for longer trips.

Pure Electric Variant

The fully electric version will feature:

  • 134 hp electric motor
  • 200 Nm torque
  • 56.7 kWh LFP battery pack
  • Up to 500 km driving range (CLTC)

The final specifications for India may differ slightly, as automakers often recalibrate battery sizes, power outputs, and suspension setups for local conditions. This locally manufactured model will likely play a key role in bringing electrified SUVs to a wider audience by keeping costs competitive.

Successor to the MG ZS EV Expected in 2027

Looking further ahead, the JSW MG Motor electric SUVs India roadmap also includes a successor to the popular MG ZS EV. The new model is expected to be built on the SAIC Intelligent Global Modular Architecture (SIGMA) platform, which supports multiple powertrains including electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid systems.

Early expectations suggest that the upcoming SUV could be:

  • 4.4 to 4.5 metres long
  • Larger and more spacious than the current ZS EV
  • Equipped with advanced connectivity and safety features

There are also strong possibilities that the new SUV could receive a hybrid or plug-in hybrid sibling to increase its appeal among mainstream buyers.

Benefits of the launches for India’s EV Market

The upcoming JSW MG Motor electric SUVs India lineup reflects a broader industry trend where automakers are investing heavily in electrification.

India’s EV market is still in its early stages but is growing rapidly due to several factors:

  • Government incentives and policies promoting EV adoption
  • Increasing charging infrastructure
  • Rising fuel prices
  • Consumer interest in sustainable mobility

By offering pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, MG could cater to two types of buyers:

  1. Early EV adopters who prefer fully electric vehicles
  2. Transition buyers who want hybrid flexibility before switching completely to EVs

This dual strategy could help accelerate EV adoption in the country.

The Road Ahead

With the launch of the MG IM6, a new locally built plug-in hybrid and electric SUV, and a future ZS EV successor, MG is clearly preparing for the next phase of India’s electric vehicle transition. If executed well, the JSW MG Motor electric SUVs India strategy could strengthen the company’s foothold in the market and offer Indian buyers a wider choice of electrified SUVs across multiple price segments. The next two years could therefore mark a major turning point for the brand’s EV journey in India.
